Marvel star’s new blockbuster set to become biggest box office flop of all time | Films | Entertainment

Anthony Mackie is best known for playing the new Captain America in the Marvel movies.

But his latest action epic has just hit US cinemas and flopped spectacularly.

Desert Warrior, the most expensive film produced in Saudi Arabian history, cost $150 million and has made less than half a million globally.

This means the historical blockbuster is set to become the biggest box office flop of all time, topping 1999’s The 13th Warrior

Shot between 2021-2022, the Rupert Wyatt-directed movie that co-stars Sir Ben Kingsley is set in 7th-century Arabia.

Kingsley’s ruthless Emperor Kisra intends to make Aiysha Hart’s Princess Hind his concubine, but she refuses. Instead, she sets out with Mackie’s bandit to confront the Emperor at the Battle of Ze Qar. Meanwhile, the film has just 29% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics labelling it “boring” and “forgettable”, and a far cry from Lawrence of Arabia.

A UK release date is TBC.
