Two bodies have been found inside a home in a seaside town, with police arresting a man on suspicion of murdering both victims. Officers were called to an address in Seven Acre Close, St Leonards, East Sussex shortly after 4.30am on Tuesday after reports that a man and a woman had been injured.
A 58-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murdering both victims and remains in police custody while detectives continue their enquiries. Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera described the deaths as a “tragic loss of life” and said officers’ thoughts were with the victims’ families and friends.
He said: “We have arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of the murder of a man and a woman, and he remains in custody at this time. This is a fast-moving investigation as we seek to understand the wider circumstances of what happened.”
Police said it had been established that the suspect and both victims were known to each other.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue.
Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Police have urged anyone with relevant CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone or dashcam footage to report it online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Newington.
