Police and paramedics have swarmed Manchester city centre this morning following reports of an incident. Pictures from the scene show a large police and ambulance presence on Market Street this morning. A huge cordon has been put in place around the Market Street tram stop.
The tram service has been disrupted, with some trains halted in the city centre – and no service operating between Victoria and Piccadilly. In a post on X, the Bee Network said: “Due to a police incident at Market Street, there is no tram service operating between Victoria and Piccadilly. Services will operate Bury to Victoria and Ashton to Piccadilly.”
Greater Manchester police later confirmed a man in his 50s had been seriously injured on the tracks. A spokesperson said: “Emergency services are currently responding to an incident on Market Street Metrolink stop in Manchester City Centre after reports of man injured on the tracks. One man, aged in his 50s, has been taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for possibly life-changing injuries. No arrests have been made in relation to this incident, and a scene remains in place whilst enquiries continue.”
