The episode, which was filmed months ago when Meghan and Harry were in Australia, saw Meghan join the other judges for one episode only. Prince Harry did not accompany his wife to the set, however, he did appear from afar. This is because the duke video-called his wife while she was taste-testing the contestants’ food.
While Meghan appeared to smile at her husband on the screen and chat away to him, even declaring her love for him at the end of the call, two royal insiders think she was actually “cross” with him for disturbing her.
Speaking about the moment on The Royals Uncensored podcast, Katie Nicholl said: “She looked a bit peed off. She looked really quite cross that that moment had been interrupted by him.”
Former royal butler Grant Harrold agreed with Katie and also thought Meghan did not look pleased to see her husband calling.
He said: “It looked almost like he had stolen her show.”
The moment not only attracted the attention of royal insiders but also of members of the public.
One person wrote on X: “Everyone already knows Harry was brought into the segment because he’s the reason Meghan is on MasterChef in the first place. They didn’t need to manufacture a fake surprise. They could’ve just let it be an authentic for once.”
Someone else said: “They could win an actual award for the most inauthentic cringeworthy appearances ever.”
Another person commented: “So staged, so cringe!”
