Two suspects have been arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped after being spiked at a party. The incident happened in a city in northern Israel, with an investigation announced on Wednesday by local police. The complaint was filed on Saturday night, police said, and has sparked an “intensive investigation”, during which further arrests are expected to be made.
Police are asking the court to extend the detention of the two suspects. “Naturally, we cannot elaborate further as these proceedings are conducted behind closed doors,” authorities said in a statement.
The incident is being investigated by the police’s Coastal District.
The girl was allegedly served a drink containing a substance that she says left her in an impaired state, local publication Y Net News reports.
Several adults and minors then allegedly took advantage of her when she was in this state, the allegation says, committing sexual offences against her as she was alone.
While two suspects have been arrested, police are also examining additional individuals as part of the case. One of the suspects is an adult, while the rest are minors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
