Bournemouth have confirmed that Alex Jimenez won’t be involved in their upcoming match against Fulham after posts circulated on social media involving the right-back. In a statement, the Cherries said they were aware of the posts and understood the seriousness of the matter. They added that an internal investigation had been opened.
The statement read: “AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Alex Jimenez. The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated. As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time.”
Jimenez initially joined Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan before the move was made permanent in January. He has made 31 league appearances for the club this season, scoring one goal.
He has played in every Premier League match for the Cherries since November, being named in the starting line-up in all but one of those fixtures.
The defender began his career in Real Madrid’s youth academy and never made a senior appearance for the Spanish giants.
He moved to AC Milan in the summer of 2023 and struggled to break into the senior side before joining Bournemouth. He remains tied down to the Cherries until 2031, having signed a five-year deal upon his permanent switch.
Bournemouth are currently sixth in the table with three games to play and can still qualify for next season’s Champions League.
They have never played in Europe at any point throughout their 127-year history.
In the summer, they will need to appoint a new permanent manager with Andoni Iraola set to leave his role as head coach at the end of the season.
Iraola is being linked with the soon-to-be vacant role at Crystal Palace to succeed Oliver Glasner, who is also stepping down when the campaign closes.
Bournemouth will be desperate to claim all three points against Fulham in order to boost their hopes of playing in Europe next season.
They will finish their season with a tough home test against Manchester City before facing Nottingham Forest on the final day.
