AMD is bringing FSR 4.1 to Xbox consoles and handhelds

AMD has just revealed that it’s bringing its latest upscaling technology, FSR 4.1, to the Xbox Series S and X consoles, as well as laptops, 6000-series GPUs, and handhelds like the Xbox Ally X devices. FSR 4.1 will start appearing for Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs today, as well as Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series devices, and Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series devices.

AMD launched its FSR 4.1 update for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in March, and promised to bring the technology to older GPUs this year. FSR 4.1 can improve performance in more than 300 supported games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

FSR 4.1 arrives just weeks after Sony and AMD teamed up to bring Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) to the base PS5, based on Sony and AMD’s Project Amethyst work. “We want to bring that work to more gamers,” says Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s computer and graphics group. “We didn’t just bring it over, we made it better. We went back into the model, we tuned it and optimized the code path.”

While owners of Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs and Gorgon Halo- or Strix Halo-powered devices will get FSR 4.1 today with the latest Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers, Xbox console owners will have to wait a little longer.

“We’ve worked very closely with AMD to optimize this technology, giving developers another powerful tool for great performance and visual quality for players,” says Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet. “Our teams are continuing to work together across hardware and software, and there’s even more ahead with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power what comes next.”

FSR 4.1 could have a big impact on Xbox console games, particularly on the lesser powered Xbox Series S. Neither Microsoft or AMD will say when FSR 4.1 will arrive on Xbox consoles, with it simply listed as “coming soon.”
