Fresh allegations surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s relationship with foreign intelligence networks and his relationship with his elder brother King Charles have emerged in a bombshell new chapter of Andrew Lownie’s updated paperback edition of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.
The book was originally published in August 2025 as a Sunday Times bestseller, and the updated version was released on May 21. The new version of the book now includes an additional 41 pages of material in a new chapter titled The Reckoning, which tracks developments following the book’s initial publication and adds further allegations about the former Duke’s behaviour during his public life.
In a subchapter titled The Intelligence Dimension, the royal biographer outlines a disturbing web of national security concerns, alleging that both Chinese and Russian intelligence operations actively targeted the former Duke of York.
According to a American intelligence document dated January 15, 2026, cited by Lownie, the Russian Intelligence Service (RIS) “cultivated” Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to serve as a high-profile “front.” The document allegedly asserts this provided a veneer of legitimacy to corruption and intelligence operations spanning the UK, US, and EU.
The intelligence source claims Andrew “was not blackmailed or otherwise coerced into this role,” but was instead a “willing participant in these schemes due to financial, sexual and personal reward.” However, the text notes there is no suggestion that Andrew knowingly partnered with Russian intelligence.
Instead, the report points to a psychological motivation.
Andrew Lownie writes: “Andrew was motivated, according to the report, by ‘a long-standing “hatred” of his brother, Charles, who he sees as weak.
“AMW detested the attention and adulation Charles received as the future King, feeling he was best suited for the role and superior in general to the then Prince of Wales.’
“It concluded: ‘RIS used AMW’s sexual proclivities to establish a relationship rapport in order to exploit this mental condition for further gain.’”
Andrew Lownie is referring to a US security service report titled Political Corruption: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor: Designated Russian Union which was leaked earlier this year. The report claimed the Russian government targeted Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor through Jeffrey Epstein to infiltrate Britain.
The report labeled him a “useful idiot,” alleging that Russian intelligence exploited his resentment toward his brother, King Charles, and used his sexual proclivities to build rapport. It claimed he was a willing participant driven by financial, sexual, and personal rewards, rather than being blackmailed.
