L’Equipe now claim that the Magpies’ skipper has even reached a personal agreement with Arsenal on a five-year deal that would keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2031. No formal negotiations between the two clubs have yet taken place, and Arsenal must meet Newcastle’s £75 million asking price if they are to secure his signature for 2026/27. Reports from The Athletic previously revealed that Arsenal tabled an opening bid of £55 million to Newcastle’s hierarchy, which was promptly rejected given Guimaraes’ pivotal role within the squad.
There are also indications that the North London club could stretch their offer to £60m, despite Newcastle holding firm on a figure £15m higher than that. This comes as the Toon Army have already witnessed several key figures depart St James’ Park over the past fortnight, as the club braces itself for a significant first-team shake-up.
Lutsharel Geertruida has reportedly been placed on the club’s shortlist as they seek additional cover at right-back, with the RB Leipzig star having caught the eye during his stint with Sunderland last season. The north London club are also believed to have set their sights on Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis – the 24-year-old winger who has made a considerable impression in the Belgian Pro League since joining the club in 2024.
