An offer from Barclays is soon to expire and you may want to act sooner rather than later to take advantage of the scheme. There is a key August date coming up regarding the offer – but the bank is warning the rules could change.
Barclays is currently offering a £200 bonus payment if you will move over your current account to them. The cash offer is only available to new customers making the switch.
To secure the amount, you need to arrange your switch in the Barclays app. You can only get the funds for switching to a new sole Barclays Bank Acount.
To arrange your switch, go to the Barclays app and select ‘Switch to Barclays’. The instructions will take you through the process – you will need your old debit card for this.
If you have your eye on the offer, you’d do well to act soon. The deadline date to put in for your switch is Thursday, August 27. You need to bring over at least two active direct debits.
But if you’re thinking of putting off making the switch for the time being, this may not be wise.
The offer may be withdrawn
Looking at the information page on the Barclays website, customers are warned: “The current account switch reward offer will run from 9 June 2026 to 27 August 2026. If a situation beyond our control arises, we may withdraw, amend or replace this offer.”
There is another cut-off date to note for your diary. As well as arranging the switch, you need to pay in at least £2,000 into the new account. This needs to be done within 30 days of opening the account.
You also need to complete the switch within 30 days of requesting it. This has to be a full switch through the Current Account Switch Service, including closing your old account.
Final deadline
So if you waited to the last minute and both opened your account and applied to switch on the August 27 deadline, the final point you to complete the switch and pay in the £2,000 minimum would be Saturday, September 26.
Once you have completed all these steps, the bonus will be paid into your new Barclays Bank account within 28 working days of you meeting all the criteria.
The amount will show on your statement as ‘Switch Reward’.
