A stunning Best Picture winner is available to watch at no cost whatsoever.
One of the celebrated South Korean actors appearing in Netflix‘s second series of Beef has what may be his finest film accessible to stream free of charge.
While the production is fronted by blockbuster American talent including Oscar Isaac and Cailee Spaeny, it’s two Korean legends who command attention this time round.
Developed by Lee Sung Jin, the popular drama’s highly anticipated return centres on a Gen Z pair working at an upmarket country club. After they inadvertently witness a fierce argument between their employer and his spouse, what appears to be an ideal chance for advancement quickly descends into chaos.
The two pairs become embroiled in a vicious cycle of deception and trivial vengeance while frantically pursuing validation from the club’s proprietor, Chairwoman Park (portrayed by Youn Yuh-jung). Simultaneously, Park is managing a controversy of her own concerning her second spouse, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kim (Song Kang-ho).
Cinema enthusiasts will probably recognise distinguished actor Song from his performances in popular Korean productions including Memories of Murder, The Host, and A Taxi Driver. Unquestionably his largest worldwide success, though, is 2019’s Parasite, which secured the Academy Award for Best Picture.
For anyone who hasn’t yet experienced the compelling thriller or is eager to watch it again, you can presently view Parasite entirely free of charge on ITVX. Song portrays father Kim Ki-taek, whose family is battling to make ends meet with menial jobs in a dilapidated basement apartment.
When his son Kim Ki-woo (Choi Woo-shik) chances upon an opportunity to penetrate the household of an affluent couple and their young daughter, their aspirations of an improved life quickly transform into a nightmare.
The film garnered universal praise, including an impressive 99 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is extensively considered one of the finest films ever made. Sight and Sound positioned it #90 on their catalogue of the greatest films in history, while The New York Times declares it the best movie of the 21st Century.
A Reddit user made the claim: “Just watched Parasite and I genuinely think it’s the best film of the last decade (2015-2025).
“I finally got around to watching Parasite (2019) last night, and I’m blown away (like hot DAMN). While there have been so many incredible movies in the last ten years, I’m finding it hard to name another that’s as masterfully crafted, emotionally resonant, and socially relevant.
“And how it shifts the genres was so natural, from a dark comedy to a tense thriller, is something I hadn’t seen in most recent movies.”
A 10/10 IMDb review calls it “One of the best films of this decade” and wrote: “What I will say is that this film, more than just about any other I’ve seen, put me through so many different emotional states during its 132-minute runtime, and did so without ever feeling muddled or tonally inconsistent.
“Parts of this movie were hilarious. Parts were heartbreaking. Other parts were insanely suspenseful (I’m honestly not sure if I’ve felt this close to the edge of my seat since the final season of Breaking Bad, way back in 2013).”
A five-star Letterboxd review also declared: “Perhaps the most nuanced and merciless look at economic inequity and wealth corruption ever presented on film. Without question, Parasite is an uncompromising masterpiece that deserves every ounce of praise it receives.”
