Two teenagers who were killed in a motorbike crash in Wales have been named locally. Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, were killed after being struck by a BMW while riding a motorbike in Newport in the early hours of Thursday morning (May 7). Heartbroken loved ones described the pair as the “best of mates”.

Emergency services were called to Aberthaw Road in Alway at around 1am on Thursday following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a BMW, which was alleged to have fled the scene afterwards. Tragically, both young men were pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have since been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Friends and family have paid heartfelt tributes to the pair, and a GoFundMe page established to support their families has already raised in excess of £12,000. Flowers left at the scene read “fly high boys” and “rest easy”.

Dozens of mourners also gathered for a balloon release in memory of Jaydon and Ta-Shay, held close to the scene of the crash over the weekend.

One friend said: “It is such a tragedy and they were the best of mates. Everyone knew them and our hearts are broken into pieces.”

Jaydon’s mum Sophie Pederson wrote on social media that she was “struggling to process the loss of you, my first born, my whole world, my absolute everything”.

She said: “My boy, my darling darling boy. Why just why. How do I live without you here by my side. You were the best boy ever. Everyone adored you. Love you millions always and forever, your broken-hearted mum.”

Both teenagers are believed to be from the Alway and Ringland areas of Newport. They have not been officially named by police. The fundraising appeal for the two families has already surpassed £12,000, with a £16,000 target set to cover funeral expenses.

A Gwent Police spokesman previously stated: “Officers from Gwent Police investigating a report of a road traffic collision in Aberthaw Road, Newport, are appealing for witnesses.

“The collision reportedly involved a BMW car and a motorbike; the BMW is believed to have left the scene before police arrival.

“Two males, the driver and the pillion passenger of the motorbike, were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Specially trained officers will be allocated to support the families throughout the investigation.
