A 16-year-old was fatally stabbed in a UK city centre on the weekend. Police were called at just before 7pm on Sunday, April 12, to a report a teenager had been attacked in Riseholme, near the Orton Centre. Emergency services, including paramedics, went to the scene and the boy was taken to hospital.
However, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said, the teen sadly died later in the evening. Detectives from the force, who are treating the boy’s death as murder, have arrested four people following the fatal stabbing. Two people from Peterborough – a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man – are under arrest on suspicion of murder, the force said on April 13.
A 17-year-old girl from Peterborough has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and a 16-year-old girl from March has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession of a bladed article, the force also said.
They are all in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
A police cordon has been set up around the scene at Orton Centre while police carry out inquiries.
The force has warned there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming day.
DCI Richard Stott, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: “This is tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated.
“While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.
“I would urge anyone who believes they have information about this attack, or lives in the area and has CCTV at their home, to contact police.”
