‘Brilliant’ romantic drama perfect for Jane Austen fans now streaming | Films | Entertainment

If you’re looking for a heart-warming watch in the vein of Jane Austen, then you need to catch this movie.

The Jane Austen Book Club first came out in 2007 and follows a group of women in a reading group who decide to discuss the works of the beloved author of Pride and Prejudice.

However, the themes from Jane Austen’s novels start to draw parallels to their own real-life romances.

The group finds their relationships both past and present starting to play out like 21st century versions of Austen’s works.

The Jane Austen Book Club is adapted from the 2004 novel of the same name by American author Karen Joy Fowler.

The movie boasted an all-star cast, including The Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt, acclaimed American actress Kathy Baker, Amy Brenneman of Judging Amy fame, Jimmy Smits from NYPD Blue, Hannibal star Hugh Dancy, Maggie Grace from Lost and acclaimed actress Maria Bello.

One person titled their 10/10 review: “A brilliant and emotional film.”

They went on to say: “Those who made it really loved and understood Jane Austen (and literature in general). Anyone of admires her books will find in this movie lots to think about.”

Adding that it was “one of the most intelligent” movies they had watched.

A second top-rated review praised the movie and declared: “[The Jane Austen Bookclub] is a remarkable achievement, an oasis in a Hollywood landscape that has forgotten how important creativity and talent must work together to produce quality work.

“Thank the Gods for these moments, when the silver screen still manages to shine golden.”

Someone else wrote in their 9/10 review: “I loved this gem of a movie. It had some very funny moments, but mostly it was sweet, utterly charming and moving.”

Adding: “I would heartily recommend this film, whether or not you are a fan of Jane Austen (you do not need to have read the novels to watch this film) – it’s a definite keeper for me, and one I shall be watching again.”

Someone else waxed lyrical: “This film is an absolute delight from beginning to end. Showcasing a marvelous cast of actors and a quaint but fun and interesting story line.”

They added: “Definitely worth the watch if you love romantic comedies and Jane Austen.”

The Jane Austen Book Club is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.
