British Gas confirms new 9am rule for customers on Saturdays | Personal Finance | Finance

British Gas has confirmed a new ‘9am rule’ for customers on Saturdays which will give them eight hours of electricity at half the usual price. The major energy supplier has launched a new fixed energy tariff which gives customers extended half-price electricity every Saturday from the hours of 9am until 5pm. During these cheaper hours, customers can take advantage of completing energy-guzzling tasks like doing the laundry, cooking and charging devices, and will get their electricity half-price.

The 13-month PeakSave Super Saturday Tariff comes following the strong uptake of British Gas’s existing PeakSave Super Sunday Tariff, which offers the same half-price electricity window on Sundays. The new Saturday tariff now expands the off-peak options to give British Gas customers more opportunities to reduce their bills and more choice in how they shift their energy use.

The Saturday scheme also extends the hours in which customers can save, running over an eight hour period from 9am to 5pm, whereas the Sunday scheme has a shorter saving window between 11am to 4pm.

British Gas said: “The new Saturday tariff allows households to select the day that best suits their lifestyle and when they typically use more electricity.

“Customers can make the most of the half‑price hours to take on everyday tasks such as preparing meals, running appliances and charging devices.

“British Gas’ PeakSave scheme has grown significantly since its launch in 2023, rewarding customers for shifting their energy use and supporting a greener energy system.

“Customers with a smart meter on any British Gas tariff can join PeakSave and benefit from half‑price electricity every Sunday from 11am to 4pm.”

According to British Gas, 1.4 million households have already signed up to its PeakSave scheme and collectively saved almost £47 million, shifting 53,709 MWH.

To join PeakSave, you need to be a British Gas electricity customer and have a smart electricity meter. If you meet this criteria, you can switch to the PeakSave Super Saturday or Sunday tariffs through your online account via the British Gas website.

Additionally, British Gas also offers further ways to save during off-peak times with its tariffs for EV, Solar power, and Heat pump customers, which offer cheaper electricity hours overnight.
