His dismissal followed the woeful 3-0 away loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, which prompted travelling Chelsea supporters to chant “f*** off Rosenior”. For the sixth time, the BlueCo and Clearlake Capital ownership are deliberating over who to bring in next. Former U21s manager Calum McFarlane will take the reins until the end of the season. There will be no shortage of candidates for Chelsea to consider come the summer.
According to BBC Sport, among those in the frame are the aforementioned trio. Iraola recently confirmed he will be leaving Bournemouth at the conclusion of the Premier League campaign. He has also been linked with a return to Athletic Bilbao, the club he represented as a player.
However, there will be considerable competition for the Spaniard’s signature, as he stands on the verge of steering the Cherries into European football. Meanwhile, Silva is once again being touted for a move to Stamford Bridge. He was in contention to succeed Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Maresca, and the Fulham boss is understood to remain firmly in the picture.
Fulham are currently 12th, but they are less than three points behind Chelsea in 8th place and will be firmly in contention for the European spots. That then leaves Terzic, who has not managed a club since his departure from Borussia Dortmund in 2024.
He is the most distinguished of the three candidates, having claimed the 2022 DFB-Pokal (Germany’s equivalent of the FA Cup) and steered Dortmund to the 2024 Champions League final. During the 2022-23 campaign, he was also just one victory away from clinching the Bundesliga title, only to see his side falter on the final day of the season.
He also boasts an impressive record when it comes to nurturing young talent, having played a key role in the development of Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland during his tenure at the Signal Iduna Park.
Furthermore, given that he is currently a free agent, Chelsea would not need to negotiate with another club to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Regardless, the Blues will not make any decision regarding their next manager until the season draws to a close.
In their statement confirming Rosenior’s dismissal, they also wrote: “Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.
“As the club works to bring stability to the head coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”
