Another round of store closures have been announced in yet another blow to the British high street. Among the stores announcing closures are the Post Office and the Co-op.

The Co-op has announced that it will be closing one of its Glasgow branches, just weeks after the closure of its Minehead branch in Somerset. Sharing news of the closure of the retailer’s Station Road branch in Bearsden, a spokesperson said: “Co-op remains committed to serving and supporting Bearsden through its Stockiemuir Avenue store. After careful consideration, however, a decision has been taken to close our Station Road store.

“Colleagues have been informed, and are being fully supported, and we would like to thank the community for its continued support for Co-op in Bearsden.”

Meanwhile, a number of towns will be using their high street Post Office, with 52 Post Office branches are set to shut by early October, due to the closure of 100 convenience stores operated by grocery chain Morrisons.

Similarly, back in June, the Post Office announced the closure of several branches linked to TG Jones store closures.

Elsewhere, luxury footwear and handbag retailer Russell & Bromley has closed all of its remaining stores after collapsing into administration with debts of more than £59million, bringing an end to 146 years of trading on the British high street.

The brand has now shut all branches that were not included in a rescue deal with fashion giant Next. The closures follow a phased wind-down of the business, leaving just three stores operating under the new ownership.

Administrators from Interpath Advisory confirmed that the remaining 33 stores have now closed their doors permanently, resulting in around 400 redundancies.

A spokesperson for the administrators said: “Following the announcement regarding the sale of the Russell & Bromley brand and certain assets to Next plc, the joint administrators can confirm that a phased closure programme for the remaining Russell & Bromley stores is now complete.

“All stores that did not transfer to Next as part of that transaction closed. Regrettably, these closures mean that the majority of employees working in the non-transferring stores have been made redundant.

“The administrators and their teams are engaging closely with all affected staff and will be providing support throughout the process, including assisting individuals in submitting claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.”

While in Liverpool, a popular Bridal shop has announced that it will be closing its doors on July 15, bringing an end to three generations of family ownership.

Bridesworld, based in Walton, opened on County Road in 1983, will be shuttind down for good. A message from the retailer read: “After 44 wonderful years and three generations, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors on July 15. This has not been an easy decision.

“Over the past 44 years, we’ve had the privilege of helping generations of brides and families, getting to know so many wonderful people who have become friends along the way.

“We are deeply grateful for every visit, every purchase, every recommendation, and every kind word of support you’ve given us throughout the years. Your loyalty has meant more to us than we could ever express.

“As we close this chapter, we leave with countless treasured memories and sincere appreciation for everyone who has been part of our journey. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing Bridesworld Liverpool to be part of your special moments for the past 44 years.”
