US President Donald Trump has issued a new threat to destroy Iran‘s bridges as tensions explode once again. The warning came after the US launched a missile strike on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim. Residents reportedly heard a loud explosion after what the outlet described as an American missile struck the island at 2.48pm local time.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned the US would “bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT” if Iran attacks any ship in the Strait of Hormuz with missiles, rockets, drones or any other weapon. He added that the targets could include infrastructure “located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran.”
Larak Island sits in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes and a key gateway for global oil supplies. The waterway has become a major flashpoint amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
Around a fifth of the world’s oil passes through the narrow waterway, making it one of the most important shipping routes in the world.
Iranian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact impact site, assess the extent of the damage and examine the circumstances surrounding the reported strike.
Tasnim said no official information had yet been released about the type of missile allegedly used, where it was reportedly launched from or the scale of the alleged damage.
This isn’t the first time Mr Trump has threatened to hit civilian infrastructure in Iran.
