US President Donald Trump will launch new strikes on Iran this weekend, according to reports. Updates coming from the US suggest Mr Trump is set to start “the harshest bombing campaigns to date against energy infrastructure targets in Iran”, multiple sources told CBS News.
The same outlet said the Israelis have been notified and are coordinating with the United States, quoting multiple U.S. sources, but quoting an Israeli official also said: “Israel is unaware of a decision to restart full military operations, nor has Israel been requested to join any military actions against Iran.”
These reports, however, came after Mr. Trump said: “We’ll be hitting them very hard. At some point, they’re going to say, ‘We just can’t take it anymore.’ I think we just want to win.”
And White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to CBS News: “As President Trump said at his cabinet meeting today, the United States will win, and Iran will not have a nuclear weapon under his watch.”
The US President also added: “We’re going to be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn to hit them. They know it’s coming.”
Yesterday (30 July) US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces resumed bombing operations against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran on Wednesday. CENTCOM also stated the strikes were carried out as a direct response to attempted IRGC attacks the previous day, which had targeted American forces deployed across the Middle East.
This escalation followed a brief spell of relative calm after weeks of bombardment, sanctions, and mounting tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
