A veteran political analyst has suggested Donald Trump is “deteriorating” — and that the people around him are unsure what to do about his alleged mental and physical “decline”.
Donald Trump is 80-years-old and it has been five months since the US President launched a war against Iran. And former BBC and GB News journalist Andrew Neil believes the war, which has dominated his second term as president, has taken a heavy toll on him from a health standout.
Writing in the Daily Mail about what he has been hearing from insiders, he said: “During a recent meeting in the Oval Office, he ranted against Iran’s leaders, calling them ‘scumbags’ and ‘lunatics’ in an expletiveridden diatribe.
“There is growing concern for his physical health and mental stability. ‘Donald is deteriorating before our very eyes,’ I was told in Washington this week by a close confidant who sees him regularly.
“His physical and mental health is in decline. Those around him don’t know what to do about it. It can only get worse. He’s 80 — and it’s showing.”
According to Andrew, who himself is 77, this decline is not just age-related, and it also comes from his growing “frustration” over how resilient Tehran’s regime has been since the war began.
Andrew said the Iran situation was at risk of defining his presidency and he added: “It is not a legacy any president should wish to emulate. But, through a mixture of stupidity and bravado, Trump looks like doing exactly that. We will all be the poorer for it.”
Despite insiders supposedly raising concerns about Trump’s health, the man himself is certainly not ready to admit to any frailties.
And in recent hours he attended the White House correspondent’s dinner where he joked about a third term in the Oval Office.
He told the audience of journalists he would run for the fourth time during a speech that lasted one hour.
And at the end of his speech, he said: “That’s why tonight, to show just how much I care about the press and, I want to save your ratings.
“I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.”
Rather than stop there, he also brought out a “Trump 2028” cap on to show that he has no plans to step away from public life anytime soon.
But despite many hints that he will strive for a third time, an amendment to the Constitution prevents anyone from serving more than two terms.
