Frontline workers and retirees can get their hands on savings worth up to £100 ahead of summer’s energy price cap rise. Blue Light Card, which is a discount card available to public sector workers, such as the NHS, emergency services, teaching and armed forces, is offering gift cards to customers who switch energy tariffs.

Ofgem announced the energy price cap will rise by 13% from July 1, 2026, pushing the average dual-fuel bill for a typical household on a standard variable rate tariff from £1,641 to £1,862. The £221 annual increase is primarily driven by volatile wholesale gas prices amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

While the price cap limits what suppliers can charge for default tariffs, energy experts have been urging households to consider cheaper fixed-rate deals to protect themselves against further volatility.

Steffie Brader, head of strategic partnerships, said: “With energy bills continuing to fluctuate, it’s more important than ever that people take a few simple steps to check they’re not overpaying.

“Switching providers or tariffs might feel like a small action, but it can make a meaningful difference to monthly household costs – especially for those already feeling the pressure.”

Some suppliers are offering switching incentives through Blue Light Card, such as gift cards for those moving to new tariffs or bundling services.
