England fan fury as Irish pub closed vs Ghana and inciteful statement released | Football | Sport

England fans have been left angry after a popular drinking spot in Boston was left shut before their match against Ghana. It comes after the Tartan Army took over the city in Massachusetts following their opening two matches at the 2026 World Cup.

The locals welcomed the Scottish fans in with open arms, as Steve Clarke’s men faced Haiti and Morocco at Foxborough Stadium. Scotland triumphed in the opening match over Haiti, sparking scenes of jubilation in the city centre, and while they might have lost against Morocco, the Scots left a strong impression on the Bostonians. Yet the same welcoming is not being granted to England fans, it seems.

One of the places in Boston where the Scots took over was the Dubliner Pub, with reports that the visiting fans had drunk the place dry. However, with England having arrived in Boston ahead of the second group game against Ghana, it doesn’t look as if the Three Lions faithful will have the opportunity to do the same.

That’s because the owner of the pub has decided to shut their doors on the day of England’s clash with Ghana (Tuesday). Issuing a cheeky statement bound to incite frustration from England fans, on social media the pub said: “We’ve decided to give our staff a day off and are closing today, they’ve worked incredibly hard over the last 2 weeks and deserve it. Thankfully there’s nothing happening in Boston today so we will be back tomorrow. #noscotlandnoparty.”

Suffice to say the Scots were loving it, with many flocking to the post to leave their thoughts. @Haveyouinstitches said: “Could anything have prepared you for the Tartan Army and what advice would you give a bar? [laugh] thanks for looking after my countrymen [Scotland flag].”

@western.mass.bestie added: “Love my petty besties at the Dubliner for being closed during the England match. And bravo for giving the staff a day of rest!”

@myskylarae responded with a brutal quip: “Hey England-No Party.”

@julia.m.mac wrote: “This is insane anti-English behavior I love it lol.”

Scotland’s World Cup party has continued on into Miami ahead of their final group match against Brazil on Wednesday night. Clarke’s side stands on the brink of making history, as they look to qualify for the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time.

Meanwhile, a victory for England against Ghana would see them through with a game to spare. Panama are up next for the Three Lions in the final game of the group, with the knockouts getting underway from the round-of-32 stage on Sunday.
