Megan Pickford, wife of England World Cup hero, Jordan, has come under heavy criticism for a comment made about the late Princess Diana. The 33-year-old was enjoying a trip to Ibiza and posted a photo from inside a private jet.
However, the Everton WAG, wrote: “I love wearing my seatbelt in every environment, if it can go wrong for Princess D(iana), it can go wrong for any of us [white loveheart emoji].”
Understandably, the caption sparked outrage, with social media users commenting on what they believed to be an insensitive comment about Princess Diana. The mum of Prince William and Harry died in August 1997 after suffering fatal injuries from a car crash in Paris, France.
Responding to the original TikTok, skateln01 replied: “The Princess Diana bit caught me off guard.”
Another commenter added: “Dumb comment about Diana.”
Meanwhile on X, PetronellaWhite said: “No class.”
Despite the comment, Megan has cultivated a large following for her behind-the-scenes content from England’s World Cup run. One of the most-watched videos came after a nightmare airport experience, where the internet personality was stuck on the runway for six hours before the flight was eventually cancelled.
Megan was joined by husband Jordan on the trip to Ibiza, with the England goalkeeper having come under fire himself in recent weeks. Critics claimed the Toffees shot-stopper ought to have saved Enzo Fernandez’s strike during England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.
However, Glen Johnson, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, pushed back on that idea. He remarked: “No, it was a great strike by Fernandez.
“You drop so deep and invite pressure, England had a few warning signs before the goal with Pickford making a great save from a header and then Argentina also hit the post.
“This was a great strike and also the time he had with no pressure on the ball. England needed to be higher up the field, so the outfield players should have been higher up the field which may well have meant Fernandez couldn’t get the shot away in the first place or the shot being blocked.”
Following his holiday, Pickford will return to Everton ahead of the new season. His next assignment in an England shirt will come against newly-crowned world champions Spain at Wembley in the Nations League.
