There are five bank holidays remaining in the UK in 2026, although not every nation will observe all of them.
The majority of workers receive bank holidays off, and schools also close. This year, people across the UK will mark a “substitute” bank holiday as Boxing Day “moves”.
Next year, both Christmas Day and Boxing Day bank holidays will “move” due to these falling on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
All four UK nations will benefit from a bank holiday this month, though the precise date differs depending on where you reside. England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will observe the Summer bank holiday on Monday, August 31.
Those living in Scotland, however, will mark their Summer bank holiday this coming Monday, August 3.
Following this, Scotland alone will also celebrate a bank holiday for St Andrew’s Day on Monday, November 30.
Later, all four UK nations will enjoy a bank holiday on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, followed by the aforementioned substitute bank holiday on Monday, December 28 – the final bank holiday of 2026.
