Four people in hospital as fairground ride ‘collapses’ at show | UK | News

Four people have been rushed to hospital after an emergency on a funfair ride at a country show tonight.

Police and ambulances were called to the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park at about 6.20pm to reports that a funfair ride had ‘collapsed’ and ‘failed’ following an alleged malfunction.

Police have confirmed that no one has been trapped on the ride but the conditions of the four people rushed to hospital is still unknown.

An eyewitness to the incident said: “We witnessed this. I still can’t work what went wrong just hoping those hurt are ok.

“I was right there when it happened and helped some people off the ride, I hope the four are ok.”

Lambeth Police said on Twitter (X): “Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday to a fairground ride having failed at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park. 

“Four people have been taken to hospital. We await an assessment of their conditions. Nobody is trapped on the ride.”

In a statement, the council said tonight: “Unfortunately, a serious incident occurred today at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park involving a malfunction on one of the funfair rides.

A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: “The incident was report at around 6.20pm today (June 8) and emergency services were quickly on the scene to treat four people who were injured.

“Paramedics and on-site teams cordoned off the area and those who were injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

“The situation is being closely monitored. The area around the ride is secure and the funfair has been closed.

“A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the malfunction.

“Additional safety inspections are being carried out on all rides and attractions at the show

“We thank the emergency services for their swift response and dedication. The safety and well-being of our visitors remain our top priority.”

The event which was founded in 1974 attracts more than 120,000 people over the weekend each year.

The show is also slated for Sunday as well unless organisers decide to change it following tonight’s events.
