Harry and Meghan’s new move is their last chance but it’s doomed to fail | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still desperately trying to make it as bona fide showbiz celebrities and seem to be pinning a lot on a “polo-themed” drama series they will executive-produce for Netflix, which was announced by Deadline in March this year. The Montecito couple’s upcoming drama series can’t match the antics of the Dame Jilly Cooper adaptation.

The second season of Rivals, based on her Rutshire Chronicles series, is currently streaming on Disney+ and while it is not ostensibly about Polo, the sport features regularly. It is a staple on the show based on the novels (one of them is even called Polo) and the universe they are set in. With that in mind the series features glamorous matches, such as the Rutshire Cup, and some stunningly beautiful players – including identical twins!

For many people watching the racy, soapy and scandalous drama this is their first real introduction to Polo, and it is being wrapped up in a very sexy package.

Unless Harry and Meghan can deliver shenanigans of the illicit variety the way Dame Jilly could then no one is going to care about their little show.

They may not be appearing in it, but I can’t really see the Duke and Duchess signing off on full frontal nudity and who’s the daddy storylines in their exec producer roles. I imagine we’ll be lucky to see anyone get a peck on the cheek in their effort.

Lets say I’m looking forward to it like a trip to the dentist for a root canal.

Rivals on the other hand is a total guilty pleasure that has me and many others gripped. It features memorable characters and twists and turns that will leave your head spinning even if you have read the books.

It all feels very irreverent as it deals with backstabbing and double dealings by the ultra wealthy in the high flying worlds of TV and politics – with some Polo thrown in of course.

The ’80s setting allows for some outrageous hair and fashions. It is a nostalgia fest as well as an outlandish and flamboyant drama.

This is the only way Polo works on screen and now it’s been done there is no hope for Harry and Meghan’s offering.
