Macaulay Culkin famously starred in the first two Home Alone movies, which are among the best-loved Christmas films of all time. However, the sequels without him, released over the past three decades, have not been of the same quality.
Nevertheless, the 45-year-old has reprised Kevin McCallister twice (presumably for a mega payday) in ads featuring the Home Alone house. Once in 2018 for Google Assistant and most recently for Home Instead, with a woman playing Old Man Marley’s granddaughter, which you can view below. And now it sounds like he’s up for a third Christmas movie as the mischievous character.
Culkin was spotted recently visiting the Disney Hollywood lot and now Entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni has a scoop.
Speaking on his podcast, The Town, he shared that “Disney is salivating” over the idea of the original Home Alone star reprising adult Kevin in a sequel. He said the Mouse House is “extremely eager to make this happen and is actively courting the actor [because is return would be a] major draw.”
Interestingly, just last year, Culkin confessed he would return to the franchise on one condition.
Speaking at one of his “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour events, the actor admitted he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to returning as he has a pitch for a sequel. According to Variety, Culkin said, “I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”He added: “The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship [and Kevin has to] get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have.”
