It happened during a wildfire that broke out near the village of Krya Vrysi, near Rethymno in Crete, Greece.
Residents of southern Rethymno were evacuated, and mayor Yiannis Tatarakis said further evacuation orders were issued for residents of Krya Vrysi, Melampes, and Saktouria, local media Manifesto reported.
According to the latest information, the same media outlet added, 54 firefighters are working at the scene, with the assistance o 11 fire engines. Four helicopters are also assisting in circling the scene of the fire. Civil Protection forces are also joining the operations with water vehicles.
France and Spain are also battling ferocious blazes. According to officials, the evacuations involve roughly 220,000 individuals in France. In Spain, more than 75,000 people have departed their residences, while a further 30,000 have been instructed to remain indoors.
The French city of Bordeaux was badly hit in the last few days, and enormous wildfires encroached on Bordeaux. Beginning last week near the Atlantic coastline, the blazes in France have advanced to within merely 9.3 miles of the outer limits of the city’s metropolitan region.
According to statements from authorities over the weekend, roughly 220,000 inhabitants have been displaced through evacuations in France.
A British restaurant owner in Bordeaux said the city is “full of smoke and ash” and residents are wearing masks if they go outside. Lance Attwood, 58, who owns Sweeney Todd’s in Bordeaux city centre, said: “It’s not really conducive to coming out.
“The town is full of smoke and ash, so there’s a big drop in business, and people are just walking around town in masks. Our biggest concern is people’s safety and the safety of the emergency services.”
Mr Attwood, who has lived in the city for 25 years, said friends who had been evacuated were focusing on recovering sentimental belongings and finding alternative living arrangements.
