Brits have been urged to leave a door open in their home on Tuesday. British Gas has shared its top tips for keeping warm in winter, and on Tuesday, temperatures are due to drop.
Maps by forecaster WXCHARTS show freezing temperatures which will stretch across the UK. Temperatures will be coldest in Scotland, reaching -6C, with the north of England to see 0C to -1C. British Gas has suggested one simple tip to help keep your home warmer.
It says: “Use the oven to heat the house. Once dinner comes out of the oven, we all close the door again. But why waste that heat?
“Leave the oven door open and let the heat transfer slowly into your kitchen, it’ll help keep your house warm while you eat. And, naturally, keep the kids and pets away from the door.”
In England, temperatures will range from -1C to 7C. The warmest areas will be in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Coventry and Warwick.
Meanwhile, in the south west, temperatures will range from 3C to 8C. As for Wales, there will be a range from 2C to 6C. In Northern Ireland, temperatures will range from 5C to 7C.
A forecast by the Met Office says: “Throughout this period, the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems attempting to arrive from the west while high pressure and colder conditions attempt to exert some influence from the east.
“Initially, milder Atlantic air is expected to dominate. This should maintain changeable conditions with showers or longer spells of rain for most.
“The wettest weather in western parts of the country, drier in the east. Temperatures overall likely to be around average.
“Later in the period, there is an increased chance that conditions will turn colder.
“This aspect of the forecast is still somewhat uncertain but the potential transition to colder weather also increases the chance of snow across parts of the country.”
