Carole Malone’s fuming about the huge sums of money paid to the French to stop small boats (Image: Jonathan Buckmaster; Getty)
Why the hell have we paid the thick end of a billion quid to the French to stop the boats when this week cops there said their orders are to just let them go. And they did – hundreds of them fought to get onto Superdinghys – resulting in the deaths of four people, three of them women. So, this is Andy’s idea of “Our plan is working”.
Clearly it isn’t. And the reason arrivals have been down (which Burnham boasted was thanks to Labour) is because of recent rough weather. Now that’s changed and 1,600 came in the past ten days making 14,128 this year. It’s time Andy Burnham stopped talking about his silly vanity projects like No 10 North and concentrated on Brits’ number one concern – out-of-control illegal immigration.
Sticking his head in the sand when the going got tough might have worked in Manchester but it sure as hell won’t work now he’s PM. The fact he doesn’t even want to talk immigration shows his cowardice and the fact he has no clue what to do about it. Well, he could start by demanding our money back from Macron.
I’d like to see backs of Harry and Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle like showing their kids’ backs… they should show us their own! (Image: Getty for W P)
Meghan and Harry persist in posting photos of Archie and Lillibet showing only their backs. As we’d all be more than happy to see the back of them, might they apply the same rules to themselves? Still on Harry and Megan – they cost Canadian taxpayers more to protect than any other VIP, including Donald Trump and King Charles. The staggering £403,383 sum (the cost to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) came after they fled Britain in 2020 and hid out in Canada.
This couple really aren’t important enough for taxpayers anywhere to have to cough up this kind of dosh for the dubious pleasure of their company. Countries should just say a polite no next time they want to visit.
We’ll soon be begging for a bailout
Anyone worried that our new PM is spending money like a man with no arms is right to be. The King of the North is a car crash with cash having left Manchester £1.34billion in debt – giving the region the highest debt level of any combined authority in England. And in his first week as PM, he spent £1.67billion. Throw in the £19billion planned for social care, God knows how much for prisons, immigration, welfare etc, and it’ll be just months before he’s begging the IMF for a bailout.
Hannah should remember who she fell in love with

Hannah Waddingham’s new boyfriend, spinal surgeon Nick Beresford-Cleary, seems to have undergone a Hollywood-style makeover since he started dating the Ted Lasso star. Has the hugely glamorous Ms Waddingham had a hand in making sure her new beau always looks Red Carpet ready? If she has, she should stop and remind herself why she fell for him in the first place – precisely because he isn’t a vain, self-obsessed Hollywood ego on legs.
Does Burnham have guts to tackle spiralling welfare bill?
The much respected Baroness Casey said this week that Britain’s welfare state is so lax even she’d qualify for benefits. “Seventeen million classed as disabled? I just don’t buy it,” she said. The question is, does Burnham have the guts to cut welfare instead of taxing hard working people to hell and back?
We want comfoy cotton pants, M&S!
Marks & Spencer produced THE most fabulous clothing range this year but now it’s gone too far and is flogging crotchless knickers. What in God’s name are bosses thinking? We don’t go to M&S for sexy fun. We want great food and sturdy cotton knickers!
If Polanski treated PM like this, he’d be behind bars
Zack Polanski is a dangerous clown. The police decided not to charge him (lunacy!) for reposting the photo of some nutter activist in a T-shirt emblazoned with a guillotine graphic saying: “We’re only making plans for Nigel.” Shocking, considering it’s just three weeks since Ann Widdecombe was brutally killed. But this is a perfect example of two-tier policing – there’s one kind for the Left and another for the Right. Because if that T-shirt had said: “We’re only making plans for Andy”, Polanski would have been behind bars in a heartbeat.
We still can’t fund defence
The slimy Wes Streeting 10 times refused to say whether he backs spending 3% of GDP on defence. Now he’s admitted he can’t because he’s got no clue how we’d fund it. So, Burnham’s got no cash to make sure our country can protect itself but plenty for bus fares and benefits?
Newspapers aren’t cash cows for bitter celebs
Prince Harry and his fellow celebs who tried to sue Associated Newspapers – and lost – now face a bill for £18million in costs. And that’s just the start. It could be anything up to £50million. They claimed to have been hacked by the Daily Mail but couldn’t produce the evidence to prove it. Now Harry, Baroness Lawrence, Elton John, Liz Hurley and Sadie Frost are having to cough up. Good. Maybe it’ll teach them that newspapers aren’t cash cows to be tapped when they need a few bob or want to settle a score.
Here’s how to save the Beeb a ton of cash
The BBC has cancelled three of its much loved shows – Celebrity Mastermind, Blankety Blank and Live at the Apollo because it needs to save £500million. Here’s a better idea – slash some of the 22,000 people on its bloated payroll – particularly those Lefties who think it’s okay to manipulate the news agenda. Then hack the salaries of obscenely paid presenters like Vernon Kay who’s on a mind blowing £405,000 for presenting a radio show which lost 1.3 million listeners when he took it over from Ken Bruce. The BBC pays silly-money salaries to people who are at best average and wouldn’t get anywhere near that kind of money if they were working for an independent TV station. But the BBC can throw money at people it neither have to account for or justify because its awash with licence payers’ cash.
