Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior appeared to have a heated exchange following Real Madrid’s Champions League elimination by Bayern Munich, a result which saw Alvaro Arbeloa’s side crash out of the competition at the quarter-final stage. The encounter at the Allianz Arena proved highly charged, with Eduardo Camavinga receiving his marching orders when the tie stood level at 4-4 on aggregate.
The France international was shown red in the 86th minute after collecting a second yellow card for time-wasting at a free-kick, with Bayern subsequently netting twice to avoid extra-time. Cameras picked up a heated confrontation between Bellingham and Vinicius, with the Brazilian seemingly instructing the England international to ‘shut his mouth.’
The flashpoint occurred after Vinicius collected possession and surged towards goal, while Bellingham raced into the penalty area demanding a pass. A poor touch enabled Dayot Upamecano to narrow the angle, preventing the pass and leaving Bellingham clearly agitated.
Vinicius was caught on camera responding to Bellingham angrily: “‘What do you want? What do you want? Shut your mouth.” He then shouted in Portuguese: “Go f*** yourself.”
At the final whistle, several Madrid players made their displeasure known towards Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, who was surrounded and harangued. Antonio Rudiger and Vinicius were amongst the most vociferous, leading the protests and berating the official, while Arda Guler was dismissed for dissent. Even Dani Carvajal, named as an unused substitute, was reportedly overheard yelling at Vincic: “It’s your f*****g fault.” Bellingham then made his feelings known in the mixed zone, labelling the red card ‘a joke.’
Madrid boss Arbeloa also took aim at the referee, charging him with ‘ruining the game.’ “Obviously, you can’t send off a player for something like that,” he told waiting journalists. “The referee didn’t even know he had a card and he ruined a very exciting, very evenly matched tie, a real battle, and that’s how the game ended.
“I think with the red card, everything was over. It is really unbelievable that you send off a player for this action, it’s not possible in a match like that to be sent off for this. We feel really, really upset, angry and disappointed and I think all of this is a little bit unfair.”
