Labour have come under criticism for their consistent push to adopt EU laws, with Sir Keir himself – a remainer – pushing for a reset. Critics such as Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage have branded it a “betrayal” of Brexit, and the Daily Express launched a campaign to Give Us A Proper Brexit, which is pushing for the country to make the most of its freedoms.
Welcoming the summit, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa said: “Close EU–UK co-operation is essential for our shared European security, resilience and prosperity.
“We are working closely together to make our upcoming second summit in Brussels on July 22 a success.”
The summit will take place on July 22 as the Labour Government seeks to forge closer ties with the European Union.
Sir Keir Starmer said he was delivering on his promise to reset ties with the EU as he confirmed a second summit with the bloc on July 22.
He posted on X: “Today I’ve agreed with @eucopresident that we will hold the second UK-EU summit on 22 July.
“My Labour Government is delivering on our promise to reset our relationship and put Britain at the heart of Europe.
“Together we will tackle the cost of living, boost jobs and create opportunities for young people.”
