A lip reader has deciphered a remark US President Donald Trump, 80, made to Brigitte Macron as she accompanied her husband Emmanuel Macron, 48, at the G7 summit in Evian, France.
The moment occurred as the French President and Brigitte, 73, personally welcomed each leader from the seven nations in attendance at the summit. When Trump’s turn came, he enthusiastically shook hands with Macron before turning towards his wife and exchanging a few words with her as well.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman has now disclosed what he interprets Trump said to Brigitte, with one specific word suggesting the US President was captivated by the French First Lady. This emerges as Macron was spotted whispering to Ukraine‘s President Zelensky about a “difficult” encounter with Trump.
Jeremy informed us that, while shaking hands with Brigitte and greeting her with a kiss on both cheeks, Trump exclaimed: “Ah Brigitte, mwah, mwah. Wow.”
That very exchange between Brigitte and Donald prompted controversy due to the President’s handshake approach, with certain observers claiming he had forced her into a “weird handshake tug of war”.
In footage from the event, Donald was observed clasping Brigitte’s hand for a prolonged period, prompting Aaron Rupar to observe: “Trump does his weird handshake tug of war with Brigitte Macron.”
The footage sparked further discussion, with numerous people labelling Trump’s behaviour towards Brigitte as “creepy”. One individual described the interaction as: “Disgusting. Inappropriate gestures and mannerisms, too.”
Another person remarked: “He grabbed and shook Emmanuel’s hand quickly, but kept hers in a grip while she’s clearly uncomfortable. Then she does this quick shake movement right after he lets go that’s like she’s shaking off the disgust.”
The debate surrounding Trump and Brigitte intensified when viewers spotted the President holding hands with her in separate footage.
One social media user wrote: “Holy smokes. Why is Trump holding hands with France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron in front of her husband?”
“Did he just need help walking down, or did he think for a minute it’s Melania?”
Nevertheless, defenders of the US President swiftly rallied to his support, with one online commenter writing: “Macron was walking off the platform without his wife.
“Taking Trump and leaving her behind. Very inappropriate. Trump recognized this and acted like a proper man.”
