Man Utd boss Carrick could get transfer budget boost thanks to Chelsea | Football | Sport

Manchester United could be set for a welcome financial boost following the latest developments surrounding Alejandro Garnacho‘s future at Chelsea. United sold Garnacho to the London club late last summer in a deal worth £40million, after the Argentina international made his desire to leave Old Trafford abundantly clear.

Since his switch, Garnacho has mustered just eight goals for Chelsea during his spell at Stamford Bridge, with only one of those arriving in the Premier League, leaving his future in the capital in serious doubt after a disappointing maiden campaign. Consequently, speculation continues to intensify over what lies ahead for Garnacho as the summer transfer window draws nearer. According to The Sun, Chelsea are now prepared to sanction Garnacho’s exit on a permanent basis this summer, just 12 months after he swapped United for Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho was already facing an uncertain outlook this summer with Chelsea operating under fresh management, with Xabi Alonso assuming control on a permanent basis following Liam Rosenior’s departure back in April.

A separate report from journalist Simon Phillips has also indicated that Chelsea will seek to recoup £40million from the sale of Garnacho this summer, though no specific clubs have been named as potential suitors for the former United winger.

United will be watching closely to see how Garnacho’s situation develops, given they stand to receive a financial windfall should the forward depart Chelsea this summer.

As part of the £40million deal United agreed with Chelsea last year, a 10 per cent sell-on clause was included.

Consequently, United would pocket a share of whatever fee Chelsea secure for Garnacho’s signature this summer, should a transfer for the Argentina international be completed.

Should Chelsea successfully offload Garnacho for the reported £40m asking price, United could find themselves pocketing an additional £4m this summer.

Former Chelsea star Wayne Bridge recently shared his thoughts on Garnacho’s stint at Stamford Bridge and offered some guidance to the ex-United forward.

“Sometimes I look at players with that much potential and wonder if they just need an old head or a father figure to work on the mental side,” Bridge told football.london earlier this month.

“I’m not saying that is definitely what he needs, but Glenn Hoddle did so much for me when I was young. He believed in me and had me doing visualisation techniques and meditation.

“At an event once, someone asked him who the best player he’d trained was, and he said that while I didn’t believe how good I was, he got players around me to help me believe in myself.

“I don’t know if Garnacho needs a father figure to ensure he keeps his head straight and does the right things, but there is so much potential there. I think players sometimes just need guidance to ensure they keep heading in the right direction.”
