Manchester United have reportedly been given the green light to launch a blockbuster move for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. The Red Devils have already added two players to boost their midfield ranks, which was a top priority for Michael Carrick heading into the window.
Andrey Santos became United’s first summer signing earlier this month, moving from Chelsea in a deal worth around £50million. He was quickly joined by Youri Tielemans, who arrived from Aston Villa as part of a £35m agreement. Despite those signings, United are still believed to be looking for a holding midfielder to replace Casemiro following the expiry of his contract.
Tchouameni has been linked with the Red Devils for a number of years, even before he joined Real Madrid from Monaco in the summer of 2022.
Those rumours have persisted throughout his time at the Bernabeu and it finally seems like United could be about to make their move.
They recently lodged an enquiry and received a positive response, with Real Madrid willing to sell the Frenchman before the end of the window.
That’s according to The Sun, who say the Spanish giants are already making plans to replace him with Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
It’s claimed that Jose Mourinho initially wanted to keep Tchouameni, but he has since been overruled by club bosses who are prepared to cash in.
The report adds that United’s interest could progress swiftly following the end of the World Cup, with France being knocked out in the semi-finals.
Tchouameni’s trophy-winning pedigree is believed to appeal to the Red Devils, having started in a World Cup final and won the Champions League with Real Madrid.
He also fits United’s preferred age range for transfer targets and has shown in previous seasons that he can stay fit over the course of an entire campaign.
Tchouameni remains tied down to Real Madrid until the summer of 2028 and was reportedly shortlisted by United ahead of the current transfer window.
However, it’s not known how much money his employers would demand in exchange for his signature. They paid around £85m to secure his services from Monaco four years ago.
