Manhunt after woman dragged to floor of train in ‘horrific’ attempted rape | UK | News

A manhunt is underway after an attempted rape on a Tube train in London. British Transport Police (BTP) have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the alleged offence on Saturday (July 11).

Police said a man approached a woman who was on her own on a Bakerloo Line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations at about 11.40pm. He exposed himself in front of her before dragging her to the floor and attempting to rape her.

She fought him off and fled from the carriage at Lambeth North before alerting staff at the station.

Police said the man remained on the train and got off at Elephant and Castle Underground station.

Detectives believe the man was at Oxford Circus Tube station for the alleged attack and Piccadilly Circus station after it.

Det Sgt Krishan Appannah said: “Our officers are supporting the victim following this horrific incident.

“We understand incidents of this nature are deeply concerning for the public and we’re appealing to them directly to help us identify the man in the CCTV footage. One line of enquiry is that he may be homeless.

“We are asking anyone who recognises the man in the images to text us his name to 61016 quoting reference 948 of 11 July.

“He may have vital information that could assist our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information can also contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
