Marks & Spencer is proposing a massive new M&S Foodhall in a medieval market town in Buckinghamshire. The supermarket giant is bringing forward plans for the site on land at White Lion Road in Amersham. The proposal, which is subject to planning approval, has a floor area of over 20,000 square feet and a car park with around 190 parking spaces.
The website for the proposed site says it would “support up to 100 permanent jobs across a range of roles, from customer service and retail to management”. M&S says it would “also generate jobs during construction and through the local supply chain, supporting Buckinghamshire’s economy and ensuring that local contractors and expertise play a key role in delivering the new store”.
“Inside the new show-stopping foodhall, customers can look forward to fresh produce from M&S’ Select Farms, an in-store bakery & coffee counter serving barista-made drinks, everyday essentials from our Remarksable Value and Bigger Pack Better Value ranges, dedicated Flower and Wine shops – and popular M&S product ranges, including: Nutrient Dense, Plant Kitchen, Only… Ingredients and Eat Well,” it adds.
The supermarket says it will feature:
M&S says if it gets the go ahead, it will bring “significant investment in the town, delivering a modern, purpose-built store designed to meet the needs of today’s shoppers and future generations”.
Buckinghamshire Council is currently considering the plans.
M&S already has a Simply Food branch on Sycamore Road in the town centre.
Amersham dates back to at least the Anglo-Saxon period (from the fifth to the tenth centuries) and its medieval roots are still evident in the layout of the old town.
