Megan Thee Stallion starts each one of her fitness vlogs the same way. “What’s up y’all, it’s your girl Megan Thee Stallion, aka The Hot Girl Coach,” she’ll say at lightning speed before launching into an animated narration of her workouts.
Showcasing her range, in some videos she’ll include snippets of the “torture” she endures at Pilates and her first time at Solid Core. And in others, she’s praising the simplest workouts, including step-ups, for getting her out of breath.
But one workout in particular stands out above the rest: the donkey kick.
In an interview with The Cut, the rap artist revealed it’s her go-to workout. “Anything to lift up the butt and anything to keep me sitting on a shelf,” she told the outlet. In fact, she’s into all the “workouts that I know will keep me sitting like a shelf, those are my favorites.”
In a March 2025 fitness vlog, Megan referred to donkey kicks as a traditional workout. Though it’s an “old” workout, she said, “I feel like it’s very effective, very productive. This is probably what helps my booty sit up high as it do.”
And she’s right. The move works the gluteus maximus, the body’s largest muscle, TODAY.com previously reported. It isolates the glute, which is ideal for targeted definition and improving strength. And because it requires you to brace your core and control your hip movements as you do it, you’ll also notice the benefits to your posture, your abdominals and your hamstrings.
In true Meg fashion, however, she doesn’t typically call them donkey kicks. She told The Cut that she refers to them at “stallion kicks.” It’s not an unusual choice for the Grammy-winner who’s called hamstring slides, “reverse Tony Hawks,” and renamed ski-machine pulls “row your boats.”
“I make up my own names for my workouts just to cope with the pain,” she said in one video.
As much light-hearted exasperation as the musician injects into in her vlogs, she keeps coming back to the gym. “I keep learning that there’s no limit to what I can do,” she told The Cut. “As soon as I think I’ve just capped out, I realize I could push myself a little bit harder.”
There’s reward in being challenged. When she got comfortable doing high-intensity interval training and her progress stalled, she pushed herself even further with Pilates.
“That made me super excited to keep discovering different workouts because everything treats your body differently,” said Megan. “I’ve learned that there’s no limit, you can just keep going, you just have to find new ways to get to the goal.”
