Meghan Markle was reportedly left unhappy after a comment made by one of the judges during her upcoming appearance as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. The Duchess of Sussex has now officially been confirmed to appear on the TV cooking competition after filming her guest spot back in April while visiting Australia with her husband, Prince Harry.
The first images from the episode have also been released, showing Meghan alongside host Poh Ling Yeow and fellow judges Jean-Christophe Novelli and Sofia Levin. During the episode, Poh welcomed the Duchess by saying: “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but no one like this.”
However, according to Sky News Australia, the remark reportedly did not go down well with Meghan. Sky News Lifestyle Reporter Chloe Walker claimed Meghan and her team were frustrated after the judges referred to her as “royalty”.
Speaking to Sky News Digital Presenter Gabriella Power, Walker said: “Apparently, Meghan and her team were a little bit upset and frustrated because the MasterChef judges referred to her as Royalty. I’m not sure why they would be frustrated.”
The Duchess of Sussex’s appearance as a guest judge on Ten’s (also known as Network 10 or Channel 10) popular cooking series will reportedly air on Sunday, July 26, at 7pm local time.
“What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes,” Meghan said, in a statement released by Ten.
“It’s such a great show. I’m just really honoured that I was asked to be able to be here with you and to be able to judge some of these meals.”
In the show, Meghan will ask the contestants to make a dish featuring one seasonal ingredient and a personal story behind it.
The ingredients available will include carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, Australian honey, macadamia nuts, quince, lemons and apples, mandarins and strawberries.
The broadcaster said in a post on Instagram announcing Meghan’s appearance: “The countdown is on! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joins the #MasterChefAU kitchen as a guest judge, bringing her love of food, entertaining and seasonal produce to one of the competition’s most memorable challenges. Tune in on Sunday, 26 July at 7pm on @channel10au.”
