The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for extreme heat on Wednesday in 90 areas across the country – and has warned the hot weather could bring power cuts. The forecaster warned that the sweltering conditions could cause “heat-sensitive systems and equipment” to break down, resulting in “power cuts and the loss of other services to homes and businesses”.
An alert for extreme heat is in place for London and South East England from 12am on Wednesday until 11.59pm on Thursday as temperatures are widely expected to exceed 30C. The Met Office warned that the hottest areas could peak at a sweltering 38C, while overnight temperatures remain over 20C.
