The Met Office has issued its verdict on the possibility of rain over the coming days, warning that one area of the UK could be drenched in a 10cm downpour. A cold front is expected to move through the country on Wednesday, bringing north-westerly winds and temperatures dropping closer to average.
Rain is forecast across North England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, while the Midlands, East Anglia, and South-east England remain drier. There is also a Met Office yellow warning in place for thunderstorms in parts of Scotland from 10am until 9pm on Wednesday.
On Thursday, more rain will come from the north towards central parts of the UK, including East England.
Some areas in the north and west could see more than 5cm of rain through the week, while parts of western Scotland may see more than 10cm.
The Met Office adds: “Persistent rain and low cloud are likely across the north of Scotland, where some downpours could be heavy, with a warning issued.
“Showery rain will move across the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. Further south, conditions will again be drier, with sunshine for the Midlands, East Anglia and southeast England.
“Temperatures here will be a few degrees lower than on Tuesday, more likely reaching 25°C to 27°C. Further north and west, highs will generally be in the high teens or low 20s.”
By the end of the week, damp conditions are expected to persist across northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with some light showers further south.
