Forecasters have said that temperatures will be cooler and closer to average for this time of year after the UK endured its fourth heatwave of the summer, with scorching heat and wildfires breaking out.
The Met Office said on X that Friday will be “chilly” for many with a scattering of showers in the North.
The cold snap follows scorching weather on Wednesday when temperatures as high as 35.2C were recorded, marking the seventh day in 2026 when temperatures have hit 35C or higher.
The warm conditions have resulted in half of England and the whole of Wales suffering from drought, due to the recent combination of low rainfall and high temperatures.
The Met Office said that Friday’s temperatures are “expected to be much closer to average across most of the UK, and even slightly below average for northern Scotland”.
On Saturday, many will also see showers however the forecaster added that there will be lots of dry weather.
According to the Met Office the first day of the month will remain sunny for some people, while others endure longer periods of rain.
The forecast for August 1 says: “Remaining breezy with showers in the north on Saturday. Largely dry with warm sunshine further south.”
In Lancashire rain is expected to start in the early hours, before clearing just after midday.
North Yorkshire is expected to see lighter rain throughout the whole day.
Scotland will see most of the rainfall as many area have been forecast showers across Saturday.
In Stirling, there is a 60% chance of rainfall for the majority of the day, with Renfrewshire facing an 80% chance of showers in the morning.
