The Met Office is forecasting mixed weather this week that could bring rain, a potential heatwave, and several changes in temperatures across the country starting from tomorrow (July 28). The UK has already basked in three heatwaves so far in 2026 – and another is on the way in a matter of day.
Tuesday is expected to be hot in the southeast, the forecaster said, widely reaching 29-30C. Temperatures could then soar beyond 30C on Wednesday, with the potential for heatwave conditions in some places by Thursday. However, the northwest is likely to see some unsettled weather. On Tuesday, much of England, Wales, and eastern Scotland are set to enjoy a dry day with sunny conditions too. This could mean the start of another increasingly warm, but short, spell of hot weather.
And as the fourth heatwave of the year looms, heat health alerts have been upgraded to amber in the East Midlands, East of England, South East, and London, and will be in place from 9am on Tuesday, 28 July until 9am on Thursday, 30 July.
The Met Office has forecast hot weather in the southeast, widely reaching 29C-30C, but on Wednesday, the mercury could jump even more, with highs of 35C possible across southeastern England also.
Deputy chief forecaster Gregory Wolverson said: “This is a short-lived spell of heat, but temperatures will climb quickly through the first half of the week, particularly in the southeast.
“By Wednesday, some areas could see temperatures in the mid-30Cs, and while the heat will not be widespread across the whole of the UK, it will be enough for parts of the southeast to likely meet official heatwave criteria by Thursday.
“Elsewhere, the weather will be more changeable, and the change to cooler, more unsettled conditions will arrive sooner from the north and west, with a mix of sunshine and showers.
“Across northern areas, it is possible there will be heavier showers with a small risk of isolated thunderstorms through the week.”
