The Met Office has forecast warm temperatures next week as the UK is set to be warmer than Athens. High pressure is increasingly likely to become established from the weekend onwards, leading to more widespread dry weather across many parts of the country.
According to Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth in the latest 10-day trend, the “April showers” of recent days will be replaced by a building ridge of high pressure that is expected to last “well into next week.”
While specific daily highs are dependent on the amount of sunshine, eastern and southern parts of England could see temperatures reaching the mid-to-high teens.
In particularly sunnier breaks, some areas may push toward 18°C or 19°C, potentially edging ahead of the temperatures forecast for the Greek capital.
Official channels state that a “warming trend” is underway both by day and by night.
In a recent blog post, the Met Office noted: “From the weekend into next week, there is growing confidence in a more settled period… Many parts of the UK should see improving conditions rather than persistent rainfall.”
While the north and west may remain closer to seasonal averages, the incoming high pressure is drawing in a milder air mass from the south and west.
Forecasters emphasise that while it won’t be a “mini-heatwave,” the strength of the April sun will make it feel “pleasantly warm” in sheltered spots, marking a significant shift from the unsettled Atlantic low-pressure systems that dominated the previous week.
