A number of banks will close across the UK this week in the latest round of closures. NatWest, Lloyds Bank and Halifax will shut branches for good, with a total of 24 set to close before Sunday (June 7).
It comes as customers continue to shift towards mobile banking services, reducing the need for face-to-face services. A total of 52 bank branches closed last month, with data showing that millions of Brits now manage their money digitally. However, the physical closures have sparked concern among people who are less confident with mobile technology or require access to cash, including older and vulnerable customers.
June is also set to be a busy month of bank closures, with dozens of branches set to leave the high street for good. Brits who rely on physical services are being advised to visit their local Post Office, where some basic banking tasks can be carried out, or to use a mobile branch service offered by some banks.
According to Lloyds, over 21 million of its customers use the app as their main way to bank. Meanwhile, NatWest said its “network and services need to reflect customer demand and ensure we are set up to deliver the best possible support”.
The banks also advise customers to check what services are available if their local branch has shut. You could also switch your account to a bank that has a branch near you.
