Nightclub horror as glass balustrade collapses and kills at least two people | World | News

THIS is the chilling moment a glass balustrade shatters at a Mexican nightclub, resulting in at least two fatalities and injuring over 15 partygoers.

Scores of revellers plummeted approximately 40 feet after a section of the third-floor barrier on the staircase leading to the club collapsed.

The incident occurred as youths lined up on the steps to enter the Rich nightclub in San Luis Potosi, roughly 300 miles northwest of Mexico City, for a concert.

Shocking footage captured the moment attendees tumbled onto the square below the venue, narrowly avoiding pedestrians outside.

Five out of the 15 injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Following the catastrophe, town hall representative Jorge Hernandez disclosed that the nightclub had neither sought nor received approval to host the concert featuring Kevin Moreno, a popular singer of traditional Mexican corridos.

He stated: “The constant and uncontrolled presence of people attending this event caused one of the railings on the third floor of this building to give way under the pressure and lead to this tragedy which claimed the lives of two people, according to the information we have so far,”.

“There are around 15 injured, some of them seriously.”

In response to the disaster, authorities have shut down the nightclub pending further investigation.

As of this morning, the five critically wounded individuals were still in intensive care.

The two individuals who tragically lost their lives have been identified as 21 year old Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente and 17 year old Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso, affectionately known to his friends as Roy.

Manuel’s father, Juan Ramon, held the position of vice-president at a union named Coparmex Matehuala.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the union expressed: “Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends following this terrible loss. A big hug.”

Bufalos Cedral, the amateur cycling team that Manuel was a part of, paid tribute by saying: “Today we have suffered a great loss. Our friend and companion Manuel has gone up to Heaven. Rest in peace Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente.”

Just last month, nine people tragically died when a stage collapsed due to heavy winds at a campaign rally ahead of the presidential elections in San Pedro Garza Garcia, located in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.

The state governor reported at the time that at least 121 people were injured in the incident.
