A huge blaze has erupted in Oldham, with thick black plumes of smoke seen for miles. The “large fire” is ongoing at a scrap yard on Moston Road in Chadderton.
Pictures circulating on social media show smoke clouds rising above the nearby M60 motorway. People have reported seeing smoke from as far away as Manchester city centre, according to the Manchester Evening News. Local residents have been urged to “keep doors and windows shut and avoid the area”. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: “Crews are currently tackling a large fire at a scrap yard on Moston Road, Chadderton. Due to large amounts of smoke, residents are advised to keep doors and windows shut and avoid the area.”
