One of the greatest films ever made is on BBC2 this weekend | Films | Entertainment

Back in 1976, Martin Scorsese directed one of his most famous and impactful films. Written by Paul Schrader, Taxi Driver is set in a downtrodden New York City after the Vietnam War.

Robert De Niro stars as (you guessed it) a taxi driver called Travis Bickle, who has a mental breakdown and becomes a vigilante. Shot on a low budget of around $12 million today, actors took pay cuts to ensure the film would be completed.

Taxi Driver is on BBC Two this Sunday evening at 10pm.
