Former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has returned to competing in sport since his release from prison. The South African was convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2015, after an appeals court overturned an earlier verdict of manslaughter.
He was released from prison on parole in 2024 and has built a new life away from the public eye. After his conviction, Pistorius was banned from competing in the Commonwealth Games, which are currently taking place in Glasgow.
But it seems that the first double amputee to compete at the Olympics has turned his attention to other sports. According to the Daily Mail, he plays padel at the local court and has entered Ironman events under a different name.
It’s added that he finished in 55th place in a 70-mile bike ride in Durban last year. In the ‘physically challenged’ category, he finished in third place.
Away from his life within sport, the report says that the 39-year-old has a new job working with a sound engineering company.
He continues to live in a mansion called Bateleur, with his Uncle Arnold, one of the richest men in the region, who raised Pistorius from the age of 15.
The house is said to have a swimming pool and a gym which allows the former paralympian to train. It’s also said to be highly secure with private security, guard dogs and 24/7 response service on the front gate.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, one local said: ‘We don’t want to know about him around here. He’s like a ghost.
“He’s disappeared off the face of the earth and most people are happy for it to stay like that. Apparently he has a job now, although no major company would go near him.”
Pistorius is now reported to be an active member of his local gospel church, alongside his new girlfriend, Rita Greyling. Their relationship was confirmed when the duo attended Pistorius’ wedding last year.
