Piers Morgan’s bombshell four-word reaction to Meghan and Harry apology | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Piers Morgan dramatically stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain in 2021, after his comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s sit down interview with Oprah Winfrey. Piers, 61, left the ITV programme that same year after causing controversy when he said he didn’t believe the Duchess of Sussex’s claims in her Oprah interview – which included allegations of racism. The incident sparked more than 50,000 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom, which later ruled the comments did not break the rules.

Opening about the furore five years later, the Uncensored host was probed about his criticism of Meghan, 44, “being over the top”. The broadcaster addressed whether an apology from him to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would ever be on the cards. In a four-word statement, he said, “I won’t do that.”

“If what you’re seeking is, ‘I’m so sorry for being mean to Meghan’ – I wasn’t,” he told Grazia magazine. “I won’t do that.”

It was reported at the time, the duchess formally complained to ITV about Piers’ remarks, which he claims ultimately led to his exit from GMB, after she “demanded my head on a plate”.

Piers went on to suggest that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has done “far worse” than the Sussexes by bringing shame on the British Royal Family.

“They’re not in the same league of wrongdoing as [Andrew’s] been accused of,” he mused, “but let’s not mitigate the damage they caused when Prince Philip and then the late Queen were dying.”

He added: “So, do I regret anything I said about them? No, I think it’ll stand the test of time.”

At the time of Piers’ GMB exit, he said: “I thought the whole thing was a farce and I’m delighted that actually, as a result of the farce, we’ve ended up with a whole network which is now dedicated to preventing that kind of farce from recurring.”

Ofcom ruled the programme had not broken broadcasting rules because it gave balance and context, with opposing views “forcefully expressed by other presenters and guests”.
